Cincinnati’s police chief chastised reporters for covering an incident caught on camera that went viral on social media, showing a one-sided street fight featuring a black mob beating up a white couple outside of the Cincinnati Jazz Festival over the weekend.

Speaking at a press conference Monday, Police Chief Terri Theetge claimed the press had made investigators’ jobs harder after distorting the incident, though she failed to identify said distortions.

“Social media, the posts that we’ve seen, does not depict the entire incident. That is one version of what occurred. At times, social media and mainstream media and their commentaries are misrepresentations of the circumstances surrounding any given event,” Chief Theetge said.

“What that does, that causes us some difficulty in thoroughly investigating the activity and enforcing the law. Because what happens, that social media post and your coverage of it distorts the content of what actually happened and it makes our job more difficult,” she added.

Theetge was commenting on a viral video that showed a white man being pushed, punched and kicked by a number of black males, right before a white female was knocked out cold by an adult black male.

During the press conference, one reporter asked, “You said social media and news media distorted the context of what exactly happened. What exactly was distorted? I understand there were multiple views of the video, but what led up to this? What was distorted?”

Theetge replied reporters should inform viewers social media only shows one angle of the story; however, she again failed to explain what distortions she was referring to.

The police chief’s comments caught the attention of X owner Elon Musk, who called on Theetge to clarify.

“Either she answers the question or she should resign,” Musk wrote on X.

Theetge’s latest comments come as she initially said she was “in complete disgust” of the incident.

“I am in complete disgust waking up to the viral video many of you have now seen. The behavior displayed is nothing short of cruel and absolutely unacceptable. Our investigative team is working diligently to identify every individual involved in causing harm.”

She also described the altercation as a “sudden dispute between individuals following a verbal altercation.”

Meanwhile, Vice President J.D. Vance commented on the situation, saying the video showed a “a mob of lawless thugs beating up on an innocent person.”

“You had a grown man who sucker punched a middle-aged woman, and where I come from at least, when you have a grown man who sucker punches a middle-aged woman, that person oughta go to jail for a very long time,” Vance said.
