A Mexican citizen who served as a police officer for more than a decade in his home country has been convicted of driving a stolen vehicle in Texas.
On January 29, 2024, the Kimble County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) received a system notification that a stolen pickup truck had entered their jurisdiction.
A day prior, a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado had been reported stolen from a San Antonio hotel by the owner, who was in town for his daughter’s volleyball tournament, according to a press release issued this week by the office of District Attorney Tonya Spaeth Ahlschwede.
KCSO deputies, working alongside state and local law enforcement, pulled the vehicle over and arrested the driver, 37-year-old Andres Ricardo Ontiveros Pulido.
Investigators determined “sophisticated thieves” had disabled the Silverado’s horn and OnStar Theft Alarm before punching out a door lock.
When the truck was recovered, it had been completely stripped of its contents, including children’s toys and the victim’s work equipment.
“Expert testimony by law enforcement at trial detailed the complexity of Mexico-based auto theft rings that steal desired make and model vehicles from major Texas cities and arrange for drivers to move the stolen vehicles to friendly border crossing locations,” the press release stated.
“Once smuggled into Mexico, the vehicles are used for a variety of purposes by cartels, including the installation of weapons and protective plating to support their criminal activities.”
Authorities learned Pulido had served for 11 years as a police officer in Juarez, a city in the Mexican state of Chihuahua.
He was sentenced to one year in prison and ordered to pay more than $10,000 in restitution to the victim.
Pulido will be deported back to Mexico as a convicted felon at the conclusion of his time in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice State Jail Division.
Earlier this year, InfoWars reported on a surge of vehicles being stolen in Texas and driven over the southern border.
