Image Credit: Houston Police Department A man who allegedly attempted to draw a firearm after behaving strangely inside a church in Texas was neutralized and arrested, according to reports.
The disturbing incident unfolded in Houston on Mar. 15, but details just came to light this week.
Emmanuel Ashono Mbwavi, 23, entered Eden Church wearing a backpack and proceeded to follow a pastor into a bathroom before walking in and out several times and then disappearing into a crowd, according to court documents reviewed by Fox 26.
A security guard recognized Mbwavi from an episode months earlier when he distributed “concerning” flyers and was asked to leave the premises.
While Mbwavi was speaking with another pastor, the guard reportedly observed him holding a revolver in his pocket.
Mbwavi allegedly tried to pull the pistol out, but the hammer became stuck on his pants, giving the guard time to tackle and disarm him with the help of parishioners.
“According to court documents, the .22 caliber revolver was loaded with six live rounds, and 100 other rounds were found in his backpack. He also allegedly had a note on his phone about killing the pastor he had been following around,” Fox 26 reports.
Mbwavi was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlicensed carrying a weapon in a public place, and resisting arrest.
Mbwavi is being held on $115,010 bond and is due back in court on May 12.
