On Thursday President Donald Trump cut off trade negotiations with Canada after its province of Ontario launched a foreign influence propaganda campaign targeting the United States. The Canadian propaganda attack featured video of former President Ronald Reagan deceptively edited to twist the meaning of his words regarding his stance on tariffs to one that would benefit Canada.
“The advertisement’s launch last week signaled the start of the Ontario government’s ‘new advertising campaign’ in the U.S. against tariffs, which has been a centerpiece of Trump’s second term,” The Hill reported. “But the advertisement quickly came under fire for using spliced audio of Reagan’s remarks on tariffs, leading a nonprofit founded by the late former president to criticize the campaign.”
Trump posted a statement by The Ronald Reagan Foundation regarding the deceitful Canadian propaganda operation:
Trump called out the Canadian lies, explaining that Reagan supported tariffs. More importantly however, Trump pointed out that Canada’s foreign influence propaganda campaign broke the law:
CANADA CHEATED AND GOT CAUGHT!!!They fraudulently took a big buy ad saying that Ronald Reagan did not like Tariffs, when actually he LOVED TARIFFS FOR OUR COUNTRY, AND ITS NATIONAL SECURITY. Canada is trying to illegally influence the United States Supreme Court in one of the most important rulings in the history of our Country. Canada has long cheated on Tariffs, charging our farmers as much as 400%. Now they, and other countries, can’t take advantage of the U.S. any longer. Thank you to the Ronald Reagan Foundation for exposing this FRAUD. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!
“The advertising campaign and the president’s anger come mere weeks before the Supreme Court is scheduled to review challenges to Trump’s tariffs,” The Hill said.
