Diehard MAGA strategist Steve Bannon indicated President Donald Trump will attempt to seek a third presidential term in 2028 to finish the agenda he’s started.

Speaking to The Economist editor-in-chief Zanny Minton Beddoes, the former White House chief strategist batted down concerns Trump is constitutionally restrained from running for a third term.

“He’s going to get a third term. So ‘Trump 28,’ Trump is going to be president of ’28 and people just ought to get accommodated with that,” Bannon told a bewildered Beddoes, who asked, “So what about the 22nd Amendment?”

Bannon noted a plan would be announced when appropriate, and explained the hardships Trump’s endured so far prove he’s been ordained by a higher authority to fulfill a higher purpose.

“Trump is a vehicle, I know this will drive you guys crazy, but he’s a vehicle of divine providence,” Bannon said. “He’s an instrument. He’s very imperfect. He’s not churchy, not particularly religious, but he’s an instrument of divine will. And you can tell this of how he’s pulled this off. We need him for at least one more term, right? And he’ll get that in ’28.”

Beddoes, a subject of the British crown, went on to argue the 22nd Amendment precludes a third presidential term, with Bannon questioning whether she believed it would be unconstitutional if the people were to support a movement to put Trump back in office.

“If the American people with the mechanisms we have put Trump back in office, are the American people tearing up the constitution? Would that be tearing up? Would the American people be going against the spirit of the constitution, ma’am?” Bannon asked.

“I think yes, actually, because I think what you will end up with is a populist justification for a quasi-dictatorship,” responded The Economist‘s chief editor.

The segment concluded with Bannon saying Trump’s track record of negotiations negate the “dictatorship” label, arguing the Constitution is primarily meant to enforce the will of the people, saying, “First off, the only way President Trump wins in 2028 and continues to stay in office is by the will of the American people, ok? And the will of the American people is what the Constitution embodies. And so I think we’re going to be in good hands there. We need to finish what we started.”

Trump has previously trolled Democrats with third term talk, however, Bannon doesn’t seem to be joking around, and the more he mentions, “Trump 2028,” it does seem to have a nice ring to it.
