Radical leftists gathered near Coast Guard Island in Alameda on Thursday to demonstrate against the Trump administration’s efforts to crack down on lawlessness and illegal immigration.
USCG Base Alameda is reportedly serving as a staging ground for federal immigration officers who are being surged to the Bay Area ahead of potential operations there.
At approximately 10 p.m., a U-Haul truck that had been parked near the main gate suddenly began moving with the driver operating “erratically and attempting to weaponize the vehicle to ram into Coast Guard Base Alameda,” according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
“USCG personnel issued multiple verbal commands to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to comply and proceeded to put the vehicle in reverse — suddenly accelerating backwards at a high rate of speed directly toward them. When the vehicle’s actions posed a direct threat to the safety of Coast Guard and security personnel, law enforcement officers discharged several rounds of defensive live fire.”

The driver of the truck then sped forward, stopped briefly, and fled the scene.
Oddly, he later returned, parked the truck nearby, and departed on foot, CBS reports.
The driver was later found after he turned up at a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach, according to the Mercury News.
He is being held for a mental health evaluation, DHS says.
A bystander struck by a fragment has been released from hospital following treatment.
No USCG personnel were injured during the incident.
A new barrier has reportedly been erected at the entrance to the base as protests continue into the weekend.
The FBI is investigating Thursday night’s incident.
Illegal aliens and radical leftists have become increasingly brazen in their resistance to immigration law enforcement.
