Directly following the Israeli/U.S. strikes against Iran on Saturday President Donald Trump said that the operation should continue “throughout the week or, as long as necessary.” On Sunday he announced that the operation will last four to five weeks. On Wednesday Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said the Iran war will could last up to eight weeks.

“You can say four weeks, but it could be six, it could be eight, it could be three,” Hegseth said. “Ultimately, we set the pace and the tempo.”

President Trump expected the operation to only last a month on Saturday. The New York Times reported:

President Trump said on Sunday that the U.S. military intends to sustain its assault on Iran for “four to five weeks” if necessary, insisting that it “won’t be difficult” for Israel and the United States to maintain the intensity of the battle even as he warned of the possibility of more American casualties.

Trump’s initial announcement Sunday can be seen here.
