Right-wing parties in the Netherlands are making gains in the polls ahead of the parliamentary elections on October 29.

According to the most recent survey, Geert Wilders’ anti-immigration Party for Freedom (PVV) is in the lead, and is expected to get 30 seats in the 150-seat parliament—an increase of two points compared to the previous poll.

The increase comes after public outrage about the murder of a 17-year-old girl, who was stabbedby an asylum seeker in Amsterdam.

The PVV quit a four-party coalition earlier this year, triggering early elections. The party was frustrated about its tough anti-immigration policies not receiving the backing of its partners.

Other right-wing parties are also on the rise: another anti-immigration force, JA21 is on course to get 9 seats, eight more than it did in the 2023 elections.

The conservative Farmer–Citizen Movement (BBB) has also increased its share of projected seats from 6 to 7.

Geert Wilders’ biggest rival is the left-wing GroenLinks–PvdA, which is expected to get 29 seats. In third place is the centre-right Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) with 22 projected seats.
