Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) joined MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Tuesday, bizarrely refusing to admit that thousands of additional police officers on his city’s streets would help lower crime rates.
Even leftist anchor Joe Scarborough was clearly frustrated by Johnson repeatedly dodging his question about whether or not 5,000 more cops would help stop crime.

This is just a crazy take, that you have to watch.
Q: "Do you believe the streets of Chicago would be safer if there were 5,00… pic.twitter.com/cWegWmWHbU
“Would you like to get federal funding to help put 5,000 more cops on the street in Chicago? Would that help drive down crime?” Scarborough asked.
Saying, “Policing by itself is not the full strategy,” Johnson was cut off by the MSNBC host, who said he understood the other programs the mayor wants to install and again asked if 5,000 extra police officers in addition to the suggested social programs would be beneficial to the city.
Mayor Johnson cited crime stats from the 1990s when the city had 3,000 more police officers and more murders per year, but Scarborough again explained he understood “it’s not policing alone,” asking, “Do you believe the streets of Chicago would be safer if there were more uniformed police officers on the streets of Chicago?”
“I believe the streets of Chicago and cities across America would be safer if we actually had, you know, affordable housing,” Johnson shockingly answered.
The Morning Joe host interrupted the mayor once again, saying, “That’s not the question I asked. My question is, and I just need a yes or a no, do you believe the streets of Chicago would be safer if you got all of those other extraordinary programs put back into place, which do have a history of being successful, if that’s complemented by having 5,000 more cops on the streets of Chicago?”
Infuriating Scarborough, Johnson responded, “I don’t believe that we should narrow it down to just police officers. That is an antiquated approach.”
Scarborough really tried to throw the Democrat politician a bone by giving him one more opportunity to say more police officers would be welcome in the crime-ridden blue city, but Johnson refused to support the notion one final time.
The mayor’s blatant opposition to enforcing the law may be one reason he has a dismal approval rating as it is common sense that more manpower in policing would make it easier for them to do their jobs.
The segment comes as President Trump is cracking down on crime in Washington, D.C. and is reportedly considering doing the same in major cities such as Chicago, calling Johnson “incompetent.”
