An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer suffered serious facial injuries when he was assaulted by Salvadoran child sex predator who is illegally present in the U.S., authorities say.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) just released details of the attack, which unfolded on Monday in Texas.
ICE Houston tracked down Walter Leonel Perez Rodriguez, an illegal alien with a significant criminal background and deportation history.
While being taken into custody, Perez Rodriguez reportedly bashed an agent in the head with a metal coffee cup, burning the officer’s face and inflicting a gruesome lip wound that required 13 stitches.
Perez Rodriguez has prior convictions for sexual assault of a child under 17 years old, several DUIs, child fondling, and illegally re-entering the U.S.
The Salvadoran initially entered the U.S. at an unknown location and date before being deported in 2013.
He again slipped into the U.S. undetected and was removed a second time in 2020.
Perez Rodriguez snuck into the U.S. a third time but is now in ICE custody.
“Our brave ICE officers are facing record-high assaults—including a 1000% increase in assaults against them—as they lock up pedophiles and other depraved criminals to keep American families safe,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “
“This repeated criminal illegal alien is about to find out the hard way that there’s a new sheriff in town—and under President Trump and Secretary Noem, anyone who lays a hand on our ICE officers will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
