The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has dismantled false claims that federal immigration agents stormed a daycare center in Chicago to arrest an innocent preschool teacher.
On Wednesday, elected officials and mainstream media began circulating footage of a woman being taken into custody at Rayito de Sol Spanish Immersion Early Learning Center.
“Today, ICE kidnapped a teacher inside a daycare, in front of little children and parents. This is not making us safer. This brutality needs to stop!” stated Rep. Chuy Garcia (D-IL).
Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL) wrote, “ICE isn’t going after the worst of the worst. This morning, they took a preschool teacher without a warrant IN FRONT OF CHILDREN in my district.”
Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-IL) posted a video response in which she claimed the school had been “broken into by these masked agents with guns.”
Local media outlet WGN9 published an article entitled, “‘Absolute terror’: Day care teacher detained by ICE agents on Chicago’s North Side.”
DHS has issued a press release to ‘set the record straight’ on exactly what transpired.
The woman who was arrested has been identified as Diana Patricia Santillana Galeano, a Colombian citizen who illegally crossed the southern border in June of 2023 and was released into the U.S. by the Biden regime.
Galeano then reportedly paid smugglers to illegally bring two of her teenage children across the border last month.
The minors, ages 16 and 17, were apprehended in the El Paso area, processed as Unaccompanied Children by Customs and Border Protection, and transported to a shelter in the Chicago area.
“ICE law enforcement did NOT target a Daycare. Officers attempted to conduct a targeted traffic stop of this female illegal alien from Colombia. Officers attempted to pull over this vehicle, which was registered to a female illegal alien, with sirens and emergency lights, but the male driver refused to pull the vehicle over. Law enforcement pursued the vehicle before the assailant sped into a shopping plaza where he and the female passenger fled the vehicle. They ran into a daycare and attempted to barricade themselves inside the daycare—recklessly endangering the children inside. The illegal alien female was arrested inside a vestibule, not in the school,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
“Upon arrest, she lied about her identity. The vehicle is registered in her name, though she claims that she didn’t know the man who was driving her car and just picked him up from a bus stop. Facts including criminality and information on the male assailant are forthcoming and we will update the public with more information as soon as it becomes available.”
The school has issued a statement about the incident, confirming Galeano was indeed employed as a teacher while slamming federal authorities for entering a “private business, and despite not presenting any judicial warrant.”
School officials assured parents that staffers “took quick action to maintain the safety and security of all children,” although it is unclear if they ever notified clients that an illegal alien was entrusted with instructing and caring for those same children.
