An illegal alien from Honduras is facing significant charges after she allegedly killed two American teens while driving drunk in Wisconsin last week, authorities say.

The tragedy unfolded on July 20 in Dane County.

Brady Heiling, 19, and his girlfriend Hallie Helgeson, 18, were traveling on Interstate 90 near Deforest when a Chevrolet Suburban going the wrong way collided with their Volkswagen Tiguan, authorities say

Helgeson was pronounced dead at the scene while Heiling fought for his life until succumbing to his injuries on July 25 at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.

Noelia Martinez, 30, has been charged with two counts of felony vehicular homicide and impaired driving.

Martinez is a citizen of Honduras who is in the U.S. illegally, according to the Department of Homeland Security

In 2020, she was convicted of drunk driving and was required to have an ignition interlock device installed in her vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol was detected in her system, but the breathalyzer was reportedly not installed at the time of the deadly crash.

In addition to Martinez’s charges, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer against her — which may not be honored by officials in the sanctuary county.

“Hallie Helgeson and Brady Heiling had their whole lives ahead of them—and they would still be alive today if it weren’t for Noelia Saray Martinez-Avila—a criminal illegal alien from Honduras. Martinez-Avila recklessly drove the wrong way on a highway while intoxicated and killed these two teens,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.

“ICE has lodged an arrest detainer to remove this public safety threat from the U.S. Unfortunately, this sanctuary jurisdiction has a history of not honoring ICE arrest detainers often leading to the release of murderers and other heinous criminals. Under Secretary Noem, these precious victims will not be forgotten, and we will fight for justice.”
