A shooter opened fire during a church service at Crosspointe Community Church outside Detroit, Michigan, on Sunday, shooting and injuring one person before being shot and killed by a security guard, according to police.
Footage posted online shows the moment the 150-person congregation fled from the would-be killer.

Many children were present, and numerous casualties are reported.

The Wayne, Michigan Police Department posted about the incident on Facebook, writing, “The Wayne Police Department responded to an active shooter at Crosspointe Church in Wayne this morning. Upon arrival, officers determined that a security guard for the church shot and killed the suspect. One victim was shot in the leg. Please avoid the area. Officers are still actively investigating.”
The church’s pastor, Bobby Kelly Jr., told the Detroit News that “a church member ran the shooter over with his truck,” allowing the security guard to shoot the attacker.
FBI Director Dan Bongino issued a statement, saying, “Our leadership and support teams are on the ground, at the scene, in Wayne, Michigan providing assistance and investigative support.”
Many people online wondered whether the shooting was a response to Saturday’s U.S. attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Also on Sunday, a Christian church in Damascus, Syria, was attacked by an Islamic State suicide bomber.
The blast killed at least 20 people and injured over 50 more.
Syria’s interior minister issued a statement following the attack, saying, “A suicide attacker affiliated with the Daesh (IS) terrorist group entered the Saint Elias church … opened fire then blew himself up with an explosive belt.”
Syria hasn’t experienced an attack like this in years, prompting many to question if the world will be seeing an increase in Islamic terror in the coming days and weeks.
