Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) earned the ire of President Donald Trump over the weekend after he opposed U.S. engagement in a hot war with Iran on behalf of Israel.
Early Sunday, Rep. Massie commented, “When two countries are bombing each other daily in a hot war, and a third country joins the bombing, that’s an act of war. I’m amazed at the mental gymnastics being undertaken by neocons in DC (and their social media bots) to say we aren’t at war… so they can make war.”
Massie next joined CBS’ Face The Nation on Sunday morning breaking down how many of his colleagues appeared to be parroting Israel’s calls for U.S. intervention, which he feared could draw the U.S. into a larger full-scale war.
Later Sunday, Massie joined CNN blasting the Trump administration’s attacks Saturday on nuclear facilities in Iran.
“I have another concern. And that is that three bombings to neutralize Iran may turn out to be the 2025 version of two weeks to slow the spread. This could turn into a protracted, prolonged engagement,” Massie warned.
“I’m here to represent the base of the MAGA party that got Trump elected. Most of us were tired of the wars in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, and we were promised that we wouldn’t be engaging in another one, yet here we see this happening,” Rep. Massie remarked.
Disappointed yet again by Rep. Massie for breaking ranks, President Trump fired off a lengthy Truth Social screed, lambasting the Kentucky congressman and vowing to support a primary challenger in the next election.
“Congressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky is not MAGA, even though he likes to say he is. Actually, MAGA doesn’t want him, doesn’t know him, and doesn’t respect him. He is a negative force who almost always Votes ‘NO,’ no matter how good something may be. He’s a simple minded “grandstander” who thinks it’s good politics for Iran to have the highest level Nuclear weapon, while at the same time yelling ‘DEATH TO AMERICA’ at every chance they get,” Trump wrote.

“Iran has killed and maimed thousands of Americans, and even took over the American Embassy in Tehran under the Carter Administration. We had a spectacular military success yesterday, taking the ‘bomb’ right out of their hands (and they would use it if they could!) but, as usual, and despite all of the praise and accolades received, this ‘lightweight’ Congressman is against what was so brilliantly achieved last night in Iran,” he continued.
“Massie is weak, ineffective, and votes ‘NO’ on virtually everything put before him (Rand Paul, Jr.), no matter how good something may be. He is disrespectful to our great military, and all that they stand for, not even acknowledging their brilliance and bravery in yesterday’s attack, which was a total and complete WIN. Massie should drop his fake act and start putting America First, but he doesn’t know how to get there — he doesn’t have a clue! He’ll undoubtedly vote against the Great, Big, Beautiful Bill, even though non-passage means a 68% Tax Increase for everybody, and many things far worse than that. MAGA should drop this pathetic LOSER, Tom Massie, like the plague!”
“GET THIS ‘BUM’ OUT OF OFFICE, ASAP!!!” Trump followed up.
Massie took note of the president’s criticisms, joking, “@realDonaldTrump declared so much War on me today it should require an Act of Congress.”
The pair’s Iran war disagreement prompted MAGA factions to argue over who is the more “America First” figure.
Meanwhile, Massie on Monday declared he’d raised more than $83K over the past day.
Is Rep. Massie correct that President Trump is being goaded into a protracted war in order to conduct regime change in Iran? Or has this actually been the goal the entire time?
