Former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton shredded the Trump administration in a USA Today op-ed Thursday, blasting renovations to the White House’s East Wing – however, internet users quickly demolished her over her ex-president father’s purported sex acts in the Oval Office.
In a piece titled, “Trump is wrecking the People’s House,” Clinton recalled her experience living in the White House as a 12-year-old while her father, Bill Clinton, served as the nation’s 42nd commander in chief.

Although I spent many of my formative years living in the White House, I always knew it wasn’t my house. It was my home, absolutely, but not my house. The White House belongs to the American people, and that’s why we call it the People’s House. I never forgot that.
So yes, while I played hide-and-seek in the White House residence and danced outside the closed doors of many a state dinner, I never once thought, “this is my house” in the way my friends thought of theirs.
Clinton went on to admit President Trump has the authority to order White House renovations – but it’s the way he’s going about it she has a problem with.
President Donald Trump has the right – and clearly has raised the private funds – to pave over the Rose Garden (and denude it of roses) as well as turn the East Wing into a ballroom.
Still, with less than a year until we celebrate our country’s 250th anniversary, it is unsettling that such substantial alterations to the 225-year-old People’s House are being undertaken without a historic-preservation review and seemingly without the involvement of any historians, and I would love to be proven wrong here.
One thing Clinton curiously omitted from her White House love letter was that her father was embroiled in a massive scandal there during his presidency, accused of engaging in sex acts with an intern – some reportedly occurring in the Oval Office’s private study – leading to his impeachment.
Social media users were more than happy to remind Chelsea how her father sullied “The People’s House,” while her parents were also accused of stealing furniture from the executive mansion.

Chelsea’s ill-thought editorial comes as the Trump administration this week updated the official White House website’s “Major Events Timeline,” which catalogs historical events impacting the Executive Office building, amending it to include Clinton’s infamous intern scandal, as well as Obama’s meeting with radical Muslims, and various Joe Biden wrongdoings.
