A bill facilitating the deportation of illegal aliens convicted of driving under the influence passed the US House Thursday, with over a hundred Democrats voting against the proposal.

Introduced by Rep. Barry Moore (R-Ala.) earlier this year, the “Jeremy and Angel Seay and Sergeant Brandon Mendoza Protect Our Communities from DUIs Act of 2025,” known as H.R. 875, “makes driving while intoxicated or impaired a ground for barring a non-U.S. national from admission into the United States, or deporting the individual.

Illegals removed under the measure would also be ineligible from a future return to the U.S.

The bill passed 245-160, with 36 Democrats crossing the aisle to join Republicans in supporting the measure.

“160 Democrats just voted against protecting American families from illegals who drive under the influence,” Rep. Moore captioned a screenshot of the vote on X.

Ahead of its passage, Rep. Moore argued on the House floor that his “common-sense” bill was a “no-brainer” that would help protect American families from tragedies caused by illegal alien drunk drivers.

Jeremy, 20, and Angel Seay, 19, two of the bill’s namesakes, were newlyweds killed two months after their wedding in 2009 when drunk illegal alien Freddy de Leon Perez, 23, pulled out in front of their motorcycle without yielding to oncoming traffic. Perez fled the scene but was later arrested.

Sergeant Brandon Mendoza, 32, was a Mesa, Arizona, police officer killed in 2014 after a head-on collision with drunk illegal Raul Silva Corona, 42, who had reportedly driven 30 miles in the wrong direction on I-10 and was later found to have a .24% blood alcohol level, three times the legal limit.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota-based Advocates for Human Rights, a leftist non-profit opposing the measure, claimed the policy would be ineffective because it “links DUI arrests and immigration enforcement even though marginalized communities face disproportionate over-policing and racial profiling.”
