Explosions have rocked a number of cities in southern Iran and air defenses have been activated, according to local reports early on Saturday morning.
Explosions are reported from the cities of Malard and Eslamshahr, close to the capital Tehran.
There are also reports of aerial patrols taking place.
According to observers, local media coverage is “very limited.”
Footage posted to social media appears to show explosions and air defense around the city of Eslamshahr; although the authenticity of the footage could not be confirmed.
On Monday, President Trump declared a 12-day ceasefire had been agreed between Israel and Iran, after the US intervened and bombed three Iranian nuclear sites at Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan.
“CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE!” President Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED! Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World. During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL.”
Despite the declaration, low intensity exchanges between the two nations continued. On Tuesday, President Trump expressed his exasperation to reporters as he boarded Marine One on his way to a NATO summit at the Hague.
“I’m not happy with Israel. When I say ‘OK now you have 12 hours’, you don’t go out in the first hour and drop everything you have on them. So I’m not happy with them. I’m not happy with Iran either.”
Trump went on to say that Israel and Iran “have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing.”
