Three prosecutors involved in cases against Jan 6th defendants were fired by the Department of Justice on Friday.
According to the Associated Press, two of the prosecutors were attorneys who worked as supervisors overseeing Jan 6th prosecutions, and the third was a line attorney who was also involved in those prosecutions.
The attorneys received dismissal letters from Attorney General Pam Bondi. The letters, which were seen by AP, did not provide detailed reasons, but simply cited “Article II of the United States Constitution and the laws of the United States.”
The dismissals follow the demotion of several Jan 6th prosecutors by interim DC US Attorney Ed Martin. The demotions included prosecutors who went after Steve Bannon, Peter Navarro, Enrique Tarrio, Joe Biggs and Stewart Rhodes.
On his first day back in office, President Trump granted pardons and commutations for more than 1,500 people convicted of offenses related to the events of 6 January 2021 at the Capitol. The proclamation described the convictions as a “grave national injustice” and said the pardons would begin a “process of national reconciliation.”
