President Trump accused Elon Musk of going “off the rails” on Sunday, after his former ally announced the creation of a new America Party.
“I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely ‘off the rails,’ essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks,” the President posted on Truth Social.
“He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States – The System seems not designed for them. The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS, and we have enough of that with the Radical Left Democrats, who have lost their confidence and their minds! Republicans, on the other hand, are a smooth running ‘machine,’ that just passed the biggest Bill of its kind in the History of our Country.”
Trump continued by claiming Musk was angry about the Bill’s elimination of “the ridiculous Electric Vehicle (EV) Mandate,” and about the fact that a close friend of his was passed over to run NASA.
Musk announced the official creation of his new America Party on Saturday.
In a post on X, Musk wrote: “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
The announcement came a day after the X owner commissioned a poll on the social-media platform to see if users favoured the creation of a new party.
“Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system,” Musk Tweeted.
“Should we create the America Party?”
The poll found that 65.4% of respondents were in favour of the America Party.
Musk has teased the creation of a new party to represent “the 80 percent in the middle” since the beginning of last month, after he shared a poll which showed 80% of respondents wanted that to happen.
Musk quickly settled on the named “the America Party” and said the party’s mission was to support candidates who align with “the core values of America,” which include secure borders, prudent spending and freedom of speech.
Musk’s disillusionment with the existing political system has grown since the end of his tenure heading up the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), in May. Since stepping away from that role as he had promised to do, Musk has criticized President Trump for his spending plans in his flagship Big Beautiful Bill, which the President has now signed into law.
Musk’s criticism of the President devolved into a bitter war of words between the two men, with Musk even suggesting the Jeffrey Epstein files were not being made public in order to protect the President. He has since apologized for his remarks.
At the end of June, Musk vowed to offer primary challenges to every Republican politician who supported the Bill.
