After over five years, the U.S. Department of Justice on Monday released footage from inside the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York where pedophile Jeffrey Epstein supposedly killed himself while in detention.
The footage features nearly 11 hours of video from a single camera looking down from a second level, throughout which a grainy figure presumed to be Epstein is only visible for about 10 seconds (starting around 7:49:23 PM) as prison guards escort him somewhere.
The raw video is available here: https://www.justice.gov/video-files/video1.mp4.
The DOJ also released an enhanced version: https://www.justice.gov/video-files/video2.mp4.
Online researchers quickly discovered an anomaly in the footage, as a minute appears to be missing from 11:58:59PM to 11:59:59PM.
The footage comes despite previous reports in the aftermath of Epstein’s Aug. 2019 death claiming cameras that were supposed to be filming his cell had malfunctioned, with other reports alleging surveillance footage from his cell was deleted and unrecoverable.
“US prosecutors say the jail mistakenly saved footage from the wrong cell,” the BBC reported at the time.
Announcing the video, the Justice Department on Sunday evening released a statement asserting “Epstein committed suicide in his cell,” adding there was “no incriminating ‘client list,'” and that “There was also no credible evidence found that Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals as part of his actions.”
The DOJ’s claims were roundly criticized by conservatives and others on social media, including Infowars’ Alex Jones who accused the agency of covering up for the Central Intelligence Agency and Israel’s Mossad.
