The horrifying tragedy unfolded at around 7 p.m. on Sunday night in Savannah.
Marcus Anderson, 14, was riding an electric bike when he was struck by the driver of a vehicle who fled the scene, WTOC reports.
Anderson was pronounced deceased at a local hospital.
Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) investigators identified a vehicle of interest and tracked it to nearby Tybee Island where they arrested two men on Monday.
The suspects were identified as Miguel Angel Reyes-Castro, 32, and Olvin Antonio Ramos-Ramos, 29.
They were both charged with willful obstruction of law enforcement and tampering with evidence, but “stronger charges” could be filed as the investigation develops, CCPD Chief Jeff Hadley said.
Additionally, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged detainers against both suspects, indicating they may be in the U.S. illegally.
