The shocking attack unfolded just after 7 a.m. on Friday morning in Fort Myers.
Authorities say Rolbert Joachin, 40, walked onto the premises of a Chevron gas station and began smashing the windshield of a parked SUV with a mallet while brandishing a knife in his other hand.
A female employee saw her vehicle being damaged and exited the shop to confront the suspect, who immediately charged at her and struck her in the head with the mallet, security footage appears to show.

The assailant appeared to deliver at least six more blows to the woman’s torso and head as she lay unconscious before he walked away.
Fort Myers Police Department officers recognized Joachin from prior incidents and an ensuing manhunt led to his arrest.
Joachin was initially charged with murder (dangerous/depraved without premeditation) and criminal mischief/damage to property over $1,000.
However, new reports indicate Joachin may have targeted the victim, who has been identified as Nilufa Easmin, for reasons that remain unclear.
Joachin told investigators he wore the same clothes the victim had seen him in days prior and lured her into the parking lot by vandalizing her vehicle, Gulf Coast News Now reported on Wednesday.
Authorities say Joachin is also a suspect in another case they have been working for months.
On Tuesday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) revealed Joachin is an illegal alien from Haiti.
“JoachimĀ first entered the U.S. in August 2022Ā and was released into the country under the Biden administration,” DHS explained in a press release.
“A federal judge issued aĀ finalĀ order of removal against him in 2022, but the Biden administration granted him Temporary Protected Status which expired in 2024.”
Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer against Joachin, who remains in local custody.
Nilufa Easmin, a mother of two daughters, was reportedly an immigrant from Bangladesh.
