After ABC stations pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! from the air on Wednesday, Sinclair Broadcasting Group announced that a special broadcast dedicated to murdered conservative legend Charlie Kirk will be aired during the failed establishment comedian’s Friday time slot.
While Democrats accuse the Trump administration FCC of pressuring companies to drop Kimmel, Sinclair is actually calling on the FCC to take action against national networks for trying to control local broadcasters.
Sinclair Vice Chairman Jason Smith said the FCC needs “to take immediate regulatory action to address control held over local broadcasters by the big national networks.”

Sinclair said Kimmel’s show will remain off air “until formal discussions are held with ABC regarding the network’s commitment to professionalism and accountability,” with Smith saying, “We believe broadcasters have a responsibility to educate and elevate respectful, constructive dialogue in our communities.”
Instead of Kimmel’s late-night program, Sinclair ABC stations will be airing a special in remembrance of Kirk that will then be broadcast on all Sinclair stations over the weekend.
The broadcasting company called on Kimmel to issue an apology to the Kirk family and make a donation to Kirk’s organization Turning Point USA.
In addition to Friday night’s on-air special, the U.S. Senate on Thursday voted unanimously to establish October 14 “National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk.”
