The shocking events unfolded on Monday in Orange County.
Hans Hamilton was traveling along the 429 Expressway near Walt Disney World when he spotted a white Lexus sedan crashed into a guardrail in the center median, News 6 reports.
Footage captured by Hamilton’s Tesla appears to show the driver of the Lexus laying motionless in the grass outside the damaged vehicle.
Hamilton says he “stopped to help” the man, who suddenly sprung to his feet and sprinted toward the Tesla, climbing on the vehicle and smashing the windshield with his foot.
The man then ripped Hamilton out of the Tesla and proceeded to viciously beat him, delivering repeated punches and elbows to the head, neck, and back.
An Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) deputy arrived at the scene, and with the help of Hamilton and another bystander, managed to take the violent suspect into custody.
He was identified as 44-year-old Daniel Coman.
OCSO says Coman was involved in a hit-and-run collision roughly two miles south of the attack on Hamilton, and is also a suspect in a “similar criminal mischief incident” that took place on Monday.
Coman was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, battery, and criminal mischief and ordered held on $5,000 bond.
Hamilton says he was treated at a local hospital for “four broken ribs, a brain bleed, multiple contusions, and a concussion.”
He also said his car suffered significant damage and may be totaled.
