Seven people have been injured after a driver hit them with his car in Derby, England.
The incident took place at 9.30pm local time.
One man, rumored to be an Indian national, is now under arrest for attempted murder, causing serious injury through dangerous driving, inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, and dangerous driving.
At present, the driver’s motivation is unclear.
“We are keeping an open mind as to the motives,” police have said.
Paramedics provided aid to the injured at the scene, before they were taken to hospital. Contrary to initial reporting, no-one has been killed.
An eyewitness told Britain’s Mirror newspaper the scene was “absolute carnage.”
“It was utterly horrific. People were laying on the pavement covered in blood and on the road.”
Labour MP for Derby North, Catherine Atkinson, has reacted to the incident in a statement on social media.
She said: “I am deeply shocked by reports that people have been injured in a serious incident in Derby city centre this evening.
“My thoughts are with those injured and I’m grateful to our emergency services.”
