A radical open borders group in California is promoting the organization of “community defense centers” using a flyer depicting a U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) vehicle in flames.

The Los Angeles Tenants Union (LATU), which claims to be a network of thousands of property renters across the city, has established itself as one of the many forces actively opposing immigration law enforcement.

One of the group’s stated goals is to force Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “out of L.A.” by interfering with the agency’s operations and warning illegal aliens about “ICE activity” in the city.

LATU has been setting up “community defense centers” — small tent stations featuring poorly-made flags, folding tables and chairs, and sometimes snacks — at locations across L.A. that are “likely to be targeted by ICE.”

Members use the stations as bases from which to “conduct street patrols,” investigate reported ICE operations, and distribute “Know Your Rights” propaganda to local residents.

On June 20, the group published a digital “guidebook” for setting up such centers featuring a cartoon drawing of a USBP SUV on fire.

“Just over a week ago, the LATU Koreatown Local launched our Community Defense Center at the MacArthur Park Home Depot. Here’s what we’ve learned so far, and how you can start something similar in your neighborhood. Together, we can CRUSH ICE!!” LATU wrote in the post.

On the same day, at least two attacks were launched on USBP vehicles and agents who were “violently targeted during lawful operations” in Los Angeles County.

A federal vehicle was intentionally rammed and had its tires slashed on Atlantic Boulevard in Bell, a small city south of Los Angeles.

A similar episode unfolded in nearby Maywood as another USBP vehicle was totaled when a suspect crashed into it.

“The driver was arrested for suspicion of vehicular assault as a mob formed and slashed additional tires. LAPD, LAFD, OFO teams, and Border Patrol Special Operations responded and restored order,” DHS explained in a statement hours later.

Photographs shared by DHS indicated weapons or projectiles were used to inflict substantial damage to the vehicles’ windows, as well.

It remains unclear whether authorities are investigating any connection between LATU’s activities and attacks on immigration agents and federal property.
