Immigration officials are gearing up to deport migrants to third countries—countries that are not their home countries—with just six hours’ notice.
According to an internal government memo seen by The Washington Post, acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Todd Lyons has advised officials they can deport migrants with significantly less notice than the customary 24 hours “in exigent circumstances.”
The memo goes on to state that migrants could be sent to nations that have pledged not to persecute or torture them “without the need for further circumstances.”
Last month, the Supreme Court lifted a lower-court order that prevented the Trump administration from sending migrants to third countries.
Following the verdict, the Trump administration sent eight migrants from Cuba, Laos, Myanmar, Sudan and Vietnam to South Sudan.
Pressure is now reportedly being put on five African nations—Liberia, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania and Gabon—to accept migrants deported from the US.
Deportations to third countries have been used in the past. During his first term, President Trump deported small numbers of migrants from El Salvador and Honduras to Guatemala.
And during his presidency, Joe Biden made a deal with Mexico to accept migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela.
Around 30,000 illegal aliens were arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in June, the most illegals arrested in a single month in half a decade.
The data for June, obtained by NBC News, show an increase in arrests from May, when 24,000 illegals were arrested.
Around 1,400 illegal aliens were arrested in the Houston, Texas area alone, including 32 child predators, nine murderers, one illegal alien convicted of hijacking an airplane, and 16 cartel or gang members.
The data also show that 18,000 illegal aliens were either deported from the interior of the country by ICE or returned to their home countries by Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
According to Department of Homeland Security officials, 253,000 illegal aliens have either been removed from the interior or deported since President Trump took office.
With the signing into law of President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill, ICE has received a $75 billion funding increase, taking its total funding to $78 billion. The massive increase will be used to fund an extra 100,000 detention beds, tens of thousands of new ICE agents and deportation operations across the US.
Tens of billions of dollars have also been allocated to completing the border wall along the Mexican border.
