White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the Trump administration Thursday, as reporters peppered her with questions regarding the Jeffrey Epstein case.
Asked if Trump has asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to appoint a special counsel to investigate the case, Leavitt responded he “would not recommend a special prosecutor in the Epstein case,” adding, “That’s how he feels.”
One reporter asked Leavitt if Trump would be appointing a special prosecutor in the Epstein case.

Leavitt’s response? A hard NO.

Leavitt’s response followed reports Wednesday claiming Trump was in favor of appointing a special counsel to review the case.
Fox News’ Jacqui Heinrich asked why the admin couldn’t just release files with redactions, “putting out what is appropriate so that the American people can decide and then let this story die.”
Leavitt acknowledged Trump is aligned with House Speaker Mike Johnson and others calling for the files’ release, and that he’s in favor of federal judges unsealing grand jury records.
The first round of Epstein questioning today came from Fox News reporter Jacqui Heinrich, who grilled Karoline Leavitt on President Trump’s recent claim that the Epstein files are a “hoax.”

Leavitt went on to say the “hoax” POTUS is highlighting is the media’s and Democrats’ intense focus on the Epstein case during his term – which they showed no interest in under Obama or Biden – ultimately serving to undermine and overshadow his administration’s numerous successes.
Leavitt insisted President Trump “has been transparent” on Epstein and “followed through [on] his promises to the American people.”
