An illegal alien with a lengthy rap sheet has been arrested for running down a family with his SUV in New York City, killing a 16-year-old girl, according to reports.
The shocking string of events unfolded just after 4 a.m. on Saturday in Queens.
Authorities say a 32-year-old woman, her teenage daughter, and two males believed to be the teen’s boyfriend and stepfather became embroiled in a confrontation with Edwin Cruz-Gomez, 38, after he made lewd comments to the females outside a restaurant in the Elmhurst neighborhood.
The family members were departing the eatery when several men began saying things like, “I want to have sex with you,” and, “If I gave you money, will you have sex with me?” to underage Jhoanny Gomez-Alvarez and her mother, Assistant District Attorney Abigail Neumiller reportedly stated during Cruz-Gomez’s arraignment hearing.
Witness footage of an ensuing altercation purportedly shot at the scene appears to show Cruz-Gomez being beaten by the men before the family eventually walks away.
Cruz-Gomez can then be seen struggling to put a shoe back on and making his way toward a large SUV.
Investigators say Cruz-Gomez pursued the family as they crossed an intersection, hopping a curb, and striking the two females.
Gomez-Alvarez was crushed between the vehicle and a utility pole and her mother was also injured.
The men can be seen desperately trying to extricate Cruz-Gomez before he reverses and flees at high speed going the wrong direction down a one-way street.

Cruz-Gomez crashed a few blocks away and was taken into custody, the New York Post reports.
Jhoanny Gomez-Alvarez was pronounced dead at the scene while her mother was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.
“Her boyfriend beat me up. I was talking to a guy about meeting girls. I may have said the wrong thing. I was upset,” Cruz-Gomez told officers during his arrest.
“I don’t know her. I got in my car. I followed them. I crashed my car into a pole. I was going 25 miles an hour. I don’t have a license. Did I kill her?”
Cruz-Gomez is facing a raft of charges, including second-degree murder, three counts of attempted murder in the second degree, two counts of assault in the second degree, vehicular manslaughter in the second degree, and driving under the influence.
On Wednesday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed Cruz-Gomez is an illegal alien from Honduras who was previously deported in 2005.
He has at least two prior arrests for DUI in the sanctuary state of New York, most recently in January of this year.
“I’m told he was also ignored by ICE after an October 2024 arrest for possession of a forged instrument because the Biden administration didn’t consider him an immigration enforcement priority,” Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin reported.
ICE has lodged a detainer against Cruz-Gomez, although it is unclear if it will be honored.
The victims reportedly moved to the U.S. from Venezuela three years ago under conditions that remain unclear.
An investigation is ongoing.
