
A disaster declaration was issued for Kerr County in Central Texas amid the July 4th holiday as catastrophic flash flooding swept through the area, leading to several fatalities.

“Texas is providing all necessary resources to Kerrville, Ingram, Hunt and the entire Texas Hill Country dealing with these devastating floods,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement. “The State of Texas today has mobilized additional resources in addition to the resources sent in preparation for the storms. I urge Texans to heed guidance from state and local officials and monitor local forecasts to avoid driving into flooded areas.”
Footage captured the devastating destruction of the flood waters that inundated the Texas Hill Country early Independence Day morning, swelling the Guadalupe River and sweeping homes and vehicles downriver in Kerrville and surrounding areas.

At least six people were confirmed dead following the flooding, which arrived as many headed to the Texas Hill Country for July 4th festivities.
The Red Cross is currently assisting the sheriff’s office in conducting reunification efforts.
