Funds for California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) redistricting efforts in the state are going to a 2028 presidential war chest, a Democrat Party insider was recently caught on hidden camera admitting to an undercover journalist.

The revelations came during a surreptitiously recorded encounter between an undercover O’Keefe Media Group journalist and Ross Pike, a regional director for the California Democrat Party, who admitted the governor was taking funds from the Prop 50 ballot initiative campaign and funneling them to a prospective presidential war chest, a possible violation of state campaign finance laws, James O’Keefe noted.

“Let’s say he [Newsom] opens up a committee and he wants to run for senate, for example…Start fundraising into that and then wants to run for president, transfers the money over to that account,” Pike told the OMG operative while being secretly filmed, saying all indications signal the governor will mount a presidential bid.

Newsom is “the major funder of that initiative,” Pike went on to say, adding he could “transfer it to a PAC and yeah.

When pressed on the legality of the process, Pike replied, “Depending on how you do it.”

O’Keefe highlighted the move would actually be illegal under California’s campaign finance laws, where Code §89519 states surplus campaign funds can only be spent on paying outstanding campaign debts or expenses, to repay contributions, as donations to charities or non-profits, or as contributions to a political party committee. Rolling the funds over into a future presidential campaign is not listed as acceptable.

Pike went on to admit Prop 50’s goal is in fact gerrymandering and that redrawing district lines in the state would help ensure it stays blue in order to keep Republicans out of office.

He also admitted to helping illegals avoid detention by warning them where ICE agents were stationed.

Prop 50 was passed on Tuesday in a 64% to 36% vote, however, Republicans on Wednesday filed a lawsuit seeking to block it.
