Image Credit: Donald Trump / Truth Social President Trump has slammed Pope Leo as “weak” and said he prefers his “MAGA” brother after the leader of the Catholic Church made barely disguised jabs at him over the Iran war and his immigration policies.
“Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday night.
“I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon. I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s terrible that America attacked Venezuela, a Country that was sending massive amounts of Drugs into the United States and, even worse, emptying their prisons, including murderers, drug dealers, and killers, into our Country,” he continued.
“And I don’t want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States because I’m doing exactly what I was elected, IN A LANDSLIDE, to do, setting Record Low Numbers in Crime, and creating the Greatest Stock Market in History.”
President Trump also praised the Pope’s estranged brother, Lous Prevost, who was widely reported to be “MAGA” when Pope Leo’s election was announced.
The President’s long criticism came a day after Pope Leo condemned the Iran war during a prayer service in Rome. In particular, he condemned the “idolatry of the self” and “delusion of omnipotence” he sees at work in the war; although he did not point his finger directly at Trump.
Pope Leo said God does not hear the prayers of world leaders with “hands full of blood” or “who wage war.”
He also criticized those who invoke the name of God in “discourses of death”—the target almost certainly being Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, who has led prayers at the Pentagon and during press conferences.
Later on Sunday, President Trump posted an AI-generated image of himself as a Jesus-like figure, healing a sick man by touching him.
