Around 25 migrants touched down in San Jose, the nation’s capital, on Saturday.
They included Albanians, Cameroonians, Chinese, Guatemalans, Hondurans, Indians, Kenyans and Moroccans.
“Upon entering the country, the migrants will receive primary care from the Professional Migration Police, with the cooperation of the International Organization for Migration (IOM),” Costa Rica’s General Directorate of Migration and Foreigners said in a statement.
The Costa Rican government signed an agreement in March to accept illegals from the US.
Under the agreement, Costa Rica will receive 25 migrants a week and financial support.
The migrants will receive food and accommodation from the IOM for the first seven days of their stay.
Third-country deportations allow the US to expel illegals whose home countries refuse to take them back.
In 2025, Costa Rica accepted around 200 deportees from the US and granted special migratory status to 85 of them who could not be repatriated to their nations of origin.
Dominica, Guyana, Honduras, Rwanda, St. Kitts and Nevis and South Sudan have also signed third-country agreements with the US.
