Florida Republican gubernatorial candidate James Fishback said he’d shoot anyone who tries to attack his campaign staff, after someone recently attempted to set his house on fire.
“On Sunday, an arsonist tried to burn down my home where our staff was working,” Fishback posted to X Tuesday. “If anyone attacks our staff or volunteers, we will not wait for the police. We will shoot you dead.”
In a speech from the home’s front porch Monday, Fishback picked up an AR-15 rifle and declared, “If you threaten our campaign, if you lay hands on a single one of our volunteers, if you come back to this home and our staff our volunteers are working hard, we’re not waiting for the police, we’re going to shoot you with an AR-15, sight unseen, 556.”

According to a statement from Fishback’s campaign manager, an arson attack took place on Sunday at Fishback’s home in Madison, Florida.
“Shortly after 5:50 p.m. on Sunday, a fire was intentionally set in his side yard and began spreading toward his home, where Mr. Fishback and members of his staff were working,” wrote Fishback’s campaign director Emma Wright, adding, “This act of arson should be unequivocally condemned. Political violence of any kind is unacceptable and has no place in America.”

Fishback is one of several Republicans facing off for the governor’s seat this November, including Trump-backed Rep. Byron Donalds (R).
