Shia Muslim women in Iran recently took part in the Hosseini Infants Ceremony where they held their babies up high to offer them up as martyrs in the annual ritual held on the first Friday of the Islamic month of Muharram, as seen in footage captured by CNN last week.
The infants were dressed in red and green with Islamic headbands while their mothers chanted, “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.”

One mother interviewed by CNN’s Frederik Pleitgen said she wants to show the West that the Iranian people “are not scared of anything” and will support their state until Western nations “are destroyed.”
Another mom said while holding her baby, “They need to know that Imam Husayn is our everything and we should sacrifice our lives for Imam Husayn,” referring to Prophet Muhammad’s grandson Husayn ibn Ali, who was killed at the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD.
The event took place on the same weekend that Iranian religious leader Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi issued a fatwa declaring anyone who threatens Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as “an enemy of God.”
The fatwa makes U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu targets and potentially incites radical Islamist followers to attack inside America and Israel.
