Federal authorities were attacked by a violent mob led by elected officials during enforcement operations in Chicago on Sunday, according to reports.
Footage circulating on social media reportedly shows militant leftists impeding immigration enforcement agents in Albany Park, a community in the Windy City known for an exceptionally high percentage of foreign-born residents.
Local agitators can be seen blocking federal vehicles and confronting agents.
Officers were forced to deploy tear gas as the situation deteriorated.
One suspect can be seen throwing a tear gas canister back at officers, who quickly responded with overwhelming force to clear him and others off the road.
“Ald. Rossana Rodriguez-Sanchez (33rd) led the crowd of rapid responders, some on bikes and others with dogs, as she sprinted toward each call with state Sen. Graciela Guzmán, D-Chicago, following behind her. Each time they arrived, the vehicles were already gone,” the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
At least one target, presumably an illegal alien, reportedly managed to escape apprehension due to interference from the mob.
More than 1,000 illegal aliens have been arrested in the Chicago area since the launch of Operation Midway Blitz on Sept. 8 amid ongoing riots, protests, and attacks on law enforcement.
Roughly 500 National Guard troops have been mobilized in response to the violence being fomented by radical leftists and illegal aliens in the sanctuary state of Illinois.
