Taking a cue from citizen journalist Nick Shirley – whose bombshell exposed Somali-run daycares in Minnesota suspiciously devoid of children – Muckraker reporter Anthony Rubin descended on a Columbus learning center where neighbors similarly said they’d never seen any children.
“We wanted to come out to Columbus, Ohio, and investigate what might be going on in the second largest Somali community in the United States of America,” Rubin described.

After knocking on the learning center’s door and receiving no answer, Rubin crossed the street to speak to a neighbor who said he’d never seen any children at the building, adding patrons primarily use the backdoor.
Another neighbor confirmed to Rubin he’d “never seen nobody come out of the building or go into the building,” acknowledging, “They use the back.”
Investigating behind the building, Rubin documented, “So we came to the back just like those guys suggested. And there’s nothing here.”
The Muckraker journalist said the facility was just one of several centers he planned to visit and report on in the city.
Rubin’s report comes on the heels of Shirley’s bombshell Minneapolis exposé, where he was unable to access Somali-owned businesses deemed daycares to verify whether children were present.

They slam the door in his face.
“You have 102 children, and you got $2.66 million dollars? Where’s the money?”

The citizen journalists’ efforts follow a federal investigation into a Somali network at the center of a billion-dollar fraud scheme in Minnesota, scamming programs intended to feed children, help autistic kids and aid those in need, a probe that’s netted 62 convictions with dozens more charged.
