At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, Atlanta Police Department (APD) officers and Georgia State Patrol (GSP) troopers were dispatched to the northwest side of the city in response to reports of “street racers occupying the entire intersection, driving recklessly, blocking the roadway from citizen motorists, laying drag, and performing illegal drifting maneuvers, also known as ‘donuts.'”
Authorities encountered a crowd of more than 200 people at the unlawful gathering.
Officers and troopers immediately pursued individuals as they attempted to escape.
Body camera footage shows an APD officer chasing a black male on foot through oncoming vehicle traffic and eventually into a residential yard where he was arrested.
“APD and GSP units conducted a traffic stop on two vehicles, one black and one silver sports sedan. All drivers and passengers were detained, and multiple firearms were recovered,” APD explained in a statement.
“In total, several street racers were arrested and charged with multiple traffic violations. Multiple firearms were placed into evidence, and their vehicles were impounded.”
One juvenile was issued multiple citations and 18 adults were arrested and booked into the City of Atlanta Detention Center.
