Image Credit: x screenshot Democrat legislators in California tried to avoid independent journalist Nick Shirley as he attempted to confront them for supporting AB 2624, dubbed the “Stop Nick Shirley Act.”
Ostensibly protecting “Privacy for immigration support services providers,” the bill allows social services workers to sue investigative reporters like Shirley for distributing their images or personal information online – including in reports exposing fraud in taxpayer-funded programs serving immigrants.
Unsurprisingly, most Democrat lawmakers were unwilling to defend their positions, and scurried off when asked to explain how AB 2624 squares with the First Amendment’s freedom of the press protections.

When confronted about AB 2624:
– Lied about authoring the bill
– Couldn't justify the bill
– Acted like they didn't know about the bill
