Disconcerting footage going viral shows a newborn boy uttering the word “Mama” as his gay surrogate father asked if he preferred “Dada or pop.”

In the video posted last week by singer/songwriter Shane McAnally (yes, that’s his real name), a gay dad plays with a six-week-old on a couch asking the infant, “Who do you want? Dada or pop?”

The infant playfully mutters, “Mama,” as a man off-camera filming laughs at the baby’s response.

“No mama,” the man holding the baby tells him.

He tries again, “Do you want Dada or Pop?” to which the baby again attempts to respond, “Mama,” before being stopped prematurely.

“No way, Jose,” the gay dad tells the surrogate son, adding, “There is no mama,” at which point the baby to break into tears.

In another video posted to Instagram by McAnally where a caption dubbed the infant a “homophobic baby,” the same infant made a confused facial expression when he’s told he has two dads.

In another video posted to Instagram by McAnally, captioned, “six-week homophobic baby,” the same infant made a confused facial expression when he’s told he has two dads.

The unsettling footage sparked fierce backlash on social media, with many characterizing treatment of the baby as “cruel,” and his upbringing in the two-dad, no-mom household an abomination that defies the very laws of nature.

“There is something so deeply sinister about this,” commented pro-woman activist Riley Gaines.

Other commenters expressed similar disgust with the baby’s unfortunate situation.

In a statement to the Daily Mail, McAnally said he was “shocked” by the internet’s reaction and said he shared the clip to be “self-deprecating,” adding, “We found it hilarious,” and that “He’s five months old, he obviously doesn’t understand English.”

‘I was appalled by what some people have been saying,’ he said. ‘Some people have taken it out of context.’

The songwriter added that he considers himself ‘quite conservative’ politically and was ‘mostly confused’ by the way some critics got so upset.

‘Babies usually say dada first, but people wouldn’t then say the babies are only wanting their dads? It doesn’t really make sense,’ he said.

‘People have been saying some awful things… He’s the happiest baby in the world.’
