U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright joined NBC’s Kristen Welker on “Meet the Press” Sunday, telling Americans the war with Iran “will certainly come to the end in the next few weeks” and that it “could be sooner than that.”
Regarding high gas prices, Wright told Welker, “Americans are feeling it right now. Americans will feel it for a few more weeks. But at the end, we will have removed the greatest risk to global energy supplies. We’ll go to a world more abundant in energy, more affordable in energy, and less risky for American soldiers and commerce in the Middle East.”
Asked how long Americans should expect to pay for expensive gas, the energy secretary said, “I think that this conflict will certainly come to the end in the next few weeks, could be sooner than that, but the conflict will come to the end in the next few weeks and we’ll see a rebound in supplies and a pushing down of prices after that.”
He also noted the administration expected short-term disruptions and increased prices on Americans, pointing out current prices are still better than they were during the Biden administration.
“At least this increase in gasoline price is for something that is going to change the geopolitical situation in the world forever,” Wright explained.
President Donald Trump has made similar remarks about the length of the Iran war, repeatedly saying he expects it to come to an end in a matter of weeks.
