Image Credit: DHS The state of Oregon allowed a “criminal illegal alien” under deportation orders to obtain a driver’s license before he was charged with killing an 8-year-old girl in a hit-and-run collision in Idaho earlier this month, authorities say.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) just released new information about Elvin Elgardo Ramos-Caballero, a citizen of Honduras who has been in the U.S. illegally for nearly a decade.
“This illegal alien was given a license by the sanctuary state of Oregon. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested Ramos-Caballero on November 11, 2025,” DHS explained in a press release.
As we previously reported, Mora Gerety was hit by a suspect driving a pickup truck in a residential neighborhood in Boise on Nov. 11.
Gerety was walking through an intersection when she was struck and killed at around 4:30 p.m. that afternoon.
The Boise Police Department detained Ramos-Caballero before transferring him to ICE custody.
Ramos-Caballero illegally crossed the southern border in 2015 into Hidalgo, Texas.
He was released into the country with a notice to appear before a federal immigration judge in 2016, but failed to attend his hearing and was ordered removed from the U.S.
It is unclear when the Honduran was issued a license by Oregon, which began granting standard driver’s licenses to illegals in 2021 following the passage of the “Equal Access to Roads Act” in 2019.
“8-year-old Mora Gerety’s precious life was taken by an illegal alien who should have never been in our country, let alone issued a driver’s license by the sanctuary state of Oregon,” stated DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
“Mora Gerety’s classmates, teachers, friends, and our nation will carry this loss forever. We ask every American to lift this family up in prayer and we ask God to grant them the courage as they face the hardest days a family can endure. Decades of open border polices have turned every community into a border town. These policies have deadly consequences.”
Illegal alien drivers continue to destroy American lives on a near-daily basis.
