On Monday President Trump told the press about a development in his Ukraine war peace plan, a development that was hinted at by Vice President JD Vance on Sunday. One point both Trump and Vance criticized Ukraine’s Dictator Vladimir Zelensky for was his utter unwillingness to cede its already lost territory to Russia as part of a settlement.
“I have a meeting set up between the two leaders (Putin and Zelensky),” Trump said. “I was a little bothered by the fact that Zelensky was saying ‘well I have to get constitutional approval’ well I mean he’s got approval to go into war and kill everybody but he needs approval to do a land swap.”

Trump went on to clarify that the settlement agreement he has formulated has both good and bad aspects for both Ukraine and Russia, but that deals are based on compromise of both parties.
As part of Trump’s peace plan, some Ukrainian land captured by Russia must be returned to Ukraine, while other Ukrainian land must be ceded to Russia.

Trump also said that while Zelensky is not welcome to an upcoming meeting between him and Putin set for Friday, the next meeting will include both Putin and Zelensky.
“The next meeting will be with Zelensky and Putin – or Zelensky and Putin and me. I’ll be there if they need,” Trump said. “But I want to have a meeting set up between the two leaders.”
Trump commented on Zelensky’s unwelcomeness to Friday’s meeting.
“He wasn’t a part of it,” Trump said. “I would say he could go, but he’s gone to a lot of meetings. You know, he’s been there for three-and-a-half years. Nothing happened.”
On Friday evening Trump announced that he will be meeting Putin in-person on Friday August 15 in Alaska.
“The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska,” Trump said. “Further details to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Following Trump announcing the in-person meeting with Putin, Ukraine’s Dictator became upset and defensive. Zelensky took to social media on Saturday to complain to his followers.
“The path to peace for Ukraine must be determined together – and only together – with Ukraine. This is fundamental,” the Dictator said after discussing previous events he was welcomed at. “And it is important that our joint approaches and shared vision work toward a genuine peace. A consolidated position. A ceasefire. An end to the occupation.”
On Sunday Vance went on Fox News where he discussed The White House’s progress on Trump’s peace plan. He said that Washington is done funding Kiev, as well as reiterated statements from Trump that Ukraine must relinquish some of the land it has lost to Russia during the war, something Ukraine’s Dictator remains defiant about.
“Americans, I think, are sick of continuing to send their money, their tax dollars, to this particular conflict. But if the Europeans want to step up and buy the weapons from American producers, we’re okay with that. But we’re not going to fund it ourselves anymore,” he said.
Vance began discussing the Ukraine topic at 5:40 into the video.
