The White House released a photo of President Donald Trump and Kash Patel standing side-by-side in response to claims the FBI director could soon be ousted, with Trump slamming the reports as fake news.
“This story is completely made up,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt replied in an X quote repost on Tuesday, responding to an “MS NOW Exclusive” claiming Trump was considering replacing Kash.
“In fact,” Leavitt continued, “when this Fake News published, I was in the Oval Office, where President Trump was meeting with his law enforcement team, including FBI Director Kash Patel.”
“I read the headline to the President and he laughed. He said: ‘What? That’s totally false. Come on Kash, let’s take a picture to show them you’re doing a great job!'” Leavitt wrote, cautioning, “Do not believe the Fake News!”

The MS Now report, which cited “three people with knowledge of the situation who requested anonymity in order to speak freely,” claimed that Trump “is considering removing Kash Patel as FBI director in the coming months, as he and his top aides have grown increasingly frustrated by the unflattering headlines Patel has recently generated…”

Trump and White House aides have confided to allies that the president is eyeing removing Patel and is considering top FBI official Andrew Bailey as the bureau’s new director, according to the three people.
Patel is described as being on thin ice and his ouster appears closer than ever, with Bailey as the logical replacement, two of the sources with knowledge of the situation said, though Trump could change his mind in the weeks to come.
The report included a denial by White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson, who also batted down the rumors, saying, “President Trump has assembled the most talented and impressive Administration in history and they are doing an excellent job carrying out the President’s agenda. FBI Director Patel is a critical member of the President’s team and he is working tirelessly to restore integrity to the FBI.”
Patel has caused frustration in some MAGA circles after his girlfriend, country music singer Alexis Wilkins, filed $5 million defamation lawsuits against several right-wing figures, including FBI whistleblower Kyle Seraphin and podcast host Elijah Shaffer, alleging they falsely accused her of working for the Israeli government.
Other reasons MAGA supporters have turned on Patel include the FBI director’s slow-walking of the Trump assassination attempt investigation, his agency’s handling of the Charlie Kirk assassination case, his use of government resources to visit Wilkins and his apparent failure to release the Epstein files.
