The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) just revealed details of an ongoing investigation into a string of shootings that culminated in an ambush on Sunday in Prescott Valley, AZ.
Early that morning, YCSO was assisting the Prescott Valley Police Department (PVPD) when they came under fire from suspects in a pickup truck shining a green laser.
One round struck a YCSO patrol vehicle, narrowly missing a deputy.
Deputies quickly detained the occupants of the truck
“Detectives from YCSO and PVPD, assisted by the ATF, confirmed that firearms seized from the truck matched the November 15th Castle Canyon Mesa shooting and other recent shootings in the area,” YCSO explained in a press release.
“The suspects have been identified as 21-year-old Alex Heredia-Rivera and a 17-year-old male. Both were arrested on November 25th following the service of search warrants by YCSO and PVPD SWAT teams. The 17-year-old suspect is in the country illegally and currently has an ICE detainer placed on him.”
The suspects are facing a slew of felony charges, including Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement, Discharging a Firearm at a Structure, and Weapons Misconduct.
“This case underscores the danger our first responders face every day. I greatly appreciate the men and women of YCSO and the PVPD for their vigilance in getting the violent criminals and criminal aliens off of our streets, keeping the citizens of Yavapai County safe,” stated Sheriff David Rhodes.
