Employees of a California medical facility physically interfered in the apprehension of an illegal alien this week and even called local police to report a “kidnapping,” according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were targeting two illegal aliens for arrest in San Bernardino County on Tuesday.
When officers in clearly marked ballistic vests exited a vehicle and approached them, a Honduran national identified as 30-year-old Denis Guillen-Solis took off on foot.
“He ended up near the Ontario Advanced Surgical Center where hospital staff assaulted law enforcement and drug the officer and illegal alien into the facility,” DHS explained in a statement.
Medical workers continued to impede the ICE operation, locking the doors to the building and blocking federal vehicles at the scene while demanding to see a warrant and telling officers to take their hands off the Honduran.
Agents eventually took Guillen-Solis into custody and presumably brought him to a holding facility.
Javier Hernandez, executive director of the Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice, told the Associated Press that Guillen-Solis was working in the U.S. as a landscaper and “sending money to Honduras to help his mother with her dialysis treatments.”
It is unclear if any hospital staff are expected to face charges.
