After President Donald Trump signed The Epstein Files Transparency Act Wednesday following the House and Senate both passing the bill, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced a new investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s child trafficking network.

Bondi cited “new information” as the reason another investigation is needed.

While the bill requires Bondi to release all of the Epstein files within 30 days of Trump’s signing, “national security” and “ongoing investigations” are listed as reasons Bondi could redact information.

Both Republicans and Democrats have expressed skepticism about the administration’s release of the files, with Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) suggesting, “This is the exact excuse Trump & his cronies at the DOJ will use to justify any potential refusal to comply with the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Release all the Files. Now. The American People will not stand for anything less than complete transparency.”

Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) warned, “People who feel very strongly about this will feel like they’ve been duped” if Bondi’s DOJ says, “’we can’t release anything because we have an active investigation.’ I don’t think that that will help calm the suspicions many have harbored for a long while on this.”

California Democrat Rep. Jimmy Gomez said, “Looks like Pam Bondi is already setting up the excuse to withhold releasing the Epstein files. Almost like this was their plan the whole time.”

Senator Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) stated, “You can adjust for whatever investigations are going on, but if you do a blanket hold, I think that they’re going to have a lot of people angry. I think they would do well to figure how to release as much as possible and then have a very well-articulated reason for that which they can’t. It would add fuel to the fire if they don’t produce something meaningful.”

The bill does say any redactions “must be accompanied with a written justification” to Congress.

Bondi is also encouraged to “declassify that classified information to the maximum extent possible,” according to the bill.

The American people are pressuring the Trump administration to finally provide transparency regarding Epstein’s high-level human trafficking network, and they won’t be satisfied if there is even a hint of obfuscation when the files are released.
