Image Credit: DHS Federal authorities are seeking to take custody of an illegal alien who was arrested after allegedly stabbing a woman and then stripping off his clothing in a snow-covered park in the sanctuary city of Charlotte, North Carolina.
On Feb. 1, Jamie Iram Gamez Cadena, 26, met his ex-girlfriend in Julian Underwood Park with the understanding that he was going to repay a debt, she told authorities.
While the woman was seated on a bench, she says Gamez Cadena grabbed her from behind and began slashing her with a knife.
Gamez Cadena then fled the scene but responding officers tracked him through the snow, where they observed footprints and articles of clothing he had reportedly been wearing.
When they located and arrested Gamez Cadena, he was naked, according to court documents.
The victim reportedly sustained lacerations to her arms and neck in the attack.
“Officers believe the 3 cuts to the neck of the victim are an intent of the defendant trying to the cut the victims neck with malice. Officers were also advised by the victim there was nobody else in the park during the incident,” authorities stated.
Gamez Cadena was charged with attempted first-degree murder.
Additionally, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged an arrest detainer against Gamez Cardena, who overstayed a B-2 tourist visa and is illegally present in the U.S.
“Sanctuary politicians repeatedly place dangerous MONSTERS like this above the safety of American citizens,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated in a press release.
“We are calling on North Carolina politicians to commit to not releasing this attempted murderer from jail back into American communities. Unfortunately, the state of North Carolina has a history of refusing to cooperate with ICE and releasing criminals back onto our streets to create more victims.”
