Russia Offers To Cease Intel Sharing With Iran If US Also Halts Ukraine Intel Sharing — Report

The Kremlin has denied claims it is sharing intelligence with the Islamic Republic, calling it “fake news."

Despite the denial, in 2025 Moscow formalized a defense and economic cooperation agreement with Tehran, codifying an alliance between the two nations.

On Friday it was reported that the head of Russia’s Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev, offered President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner a diplomatic proposition – the ceasing of Russian intelligence sharing with Iran in exchange for the ceasing of U.S. intelligence sharing with Ukraine. The officials from Washington reportedly rejected the deal.

This information allows the proxy states to target enemy forces on the battlefield. While Ukraine began to be provided targeting intel by the U.S. under President-via-autopen Joe Biden, President Donald Trump continued the practice, only cutting it off temporarily when upset with the country’s Dictator Vladimir Zelensky.

“This support is believed to have helped Iran strike U.S. bases and infrastructure across the Middle East since the start of the ongoing U.S.-Israeli war against Iran,” News18 reported Friday. “Moscow’s offer, framed as a quid pro quo, would have involved halting the transfer of intelligence, including precise coordinates of U.S. military assets, in exchange for Washington ending intelligence support to Ukraine.”

On March 6 it was reported that Russia is providing Iran with targeting intelligence to help it strike U.S. forces, just as the U.S. is doing for Ukraine to strike Russian forces.

The intelligence sharing includes the location of American military vessels and aircraft in the Middle East. Tehran uses the information for the telemetry of their missile attacks. Three unnamed officials “familiar with the intelligence” first reported this development to The Washington Post.

“The assistance, which has not been previously reported, signals that the rapidly expanding conflict now features one of America’s chief nuclear-armed competitors with exquisite intelligence capabilities,” The Washington Post said. “Since the war began Saturday, Russia has passed Iran the locations of U.S. military assets, including warships and aircraft, said the three officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the matter’s sensitivity.”

Importantly, the Kremlin has denied claims it is sharing intelligence with the Islamic Republic, calling it “fake news.”

Despite the denial, in 2025 Moscow formalized a defense and economic cooperation agreement with Tehran, codifying an alliance between the two nations. The ‘Treaty on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation‘ includes provisions for the fields of defense, counterterrorism, energy, finance, transport, industry, agriculture, culture, science and technology.

This is not the first instance of Moscow welcoming Tehran with open arms. Iran attended the 2024 BRICS economic cooperation summit, their first year as a formal member of the bloc.

In 2025 Russia even warned the U.S. that several nations are prepared to give Iran nuclear weapons.
