San Francisco, California, set to host Super Bowl LX on Sunday, is the home to a new pro-ICE billboard absolutely triggering residents of the most liberal city in America.
The football-themed advertisement says, “Defensive Player Of The Year: ICE,” featuring an image of an immigration agent posing with a trophy.
Another image on the digital billboard reads, “They can’t win without defense,” showing a football team alongside a second image of ICE agents, stating, “Neither can America.”
A third image on the billboard shows a picture of immigration officials standing in front of Trump’s border wall, saying, “Cheering because the home team finally started investing in defense.”
One woman told a local news outlet, “It made me sick to my stomach,” while other residents said they have no issues with ICE.
In October, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem told podcast host Benny Johnson that ICE would be conducting immigration operations at the Super Bowl, but this week NFL Chief of Security Cathy Lanier said, “There are no planned ICE or immigration enforcement operations that are scheduled around the Super Bowl or any of the Super Bowl-related events.”
Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin pointed out DHS always plays a role in major events such as the Super bowl.
“DHS is committed to working with our local and federal partners to ensure the Super Bowl is safe for everyone involved, as we do with every major sporting event, including the World Cup. Our mission remains unchanged,” McLaughlin said. “We will not disclose future operations or discuss personnel. Super Bowl security will entail a whole of government response conducted in-line with the U.S. Constitution. Those who are here legally and are not breaking other laws have nothing to fear.”
The rumors of ICE apprehending people around the stadium where the game will be played have sparked protests in the area.
